“Stronger People are HARDER to KILL!”
The stronger you are the harder it will be for the cancer and the doctors to kill you.
Naturally, when one is diagnosed with cancer you seek information wherever you can find it. Seemingly, the most convenient of sources these days is Facebook. Since my diagnosis I have been deluged with cancer and prostate cancer specific advertising on Facebook. Some I find interesting and credible. I concur with the Kuvings USA Facebook page where the cancer survivor video supporting Kuvings’ juicer states,
“Not one doctor talked to me about making any lifestyle changes.” “They talked treatment but nothing about the root causes.”
The urologist has basically given me two options, removing or radiating my prostate. He explained that research shows that there is no statistical difference to successful outcomes between either of those two therapies. He also went on to say that if either treatment failed to remove or kill all of the cancer it would return.
The urologist did not discuss anything beyond that. What about the root cause of my cancer? Surely something living can be killed. The Kurvings’ video went on to say, “Everything we put in our mouth is either fighting disease or feeding it.”
This makes great sense to me. I have already written about how toxins in our bodies manifest themselves in disease and ultimately cancer. But what about healthy, vitamin, enzyme rich, nutritional foods that remove toxins and enrich our cells and body?
The video further reports that: “70% of all Americans are on some type of prescription medicine.” From the Kuvings’ USA Facebook page
I am one of those 70% on cholesterol (statin), high blood pressure, and thyroid medications. Since beginning this expedition, I removed myself from the statin drug, and no longer take the three high blood pressure medicines. I take my blood pressure daily and it remains remarkably low. I have lost thirty pounds without really trying very hard, although some might argue that my fasting, increased exercise, and significant diet change has been quite dramatic. Looking back the past three or four months it doesn’t seem like any big deal.
I am looking forward to this month’s lab tests as I believe that my weight loss can also be attributed to my thyroid. I’m hoping that the diet and exercise therapy I have been using has also improved my thyroid function.
I have made many diet mistakes along the way but that is what an expedition is all about. I’m learning and changing as I go. The book I reviewed in my last blog, A Cancer Battle Plan, increased my knowledge and understanding significantly. A Cancer Battle Plan led me to another book, Beat Cancer Kitchen by Chris and Micah Wark. Both of these books by survivors describe how they removed toxins and used fruits and vegetables to beat and survive their respective cancers.
I am becoming convinced that while chemo, radiation, and tissue removal are therapies they are not the end all be all cancer treatments. In fact, chemo and radiation inhibits your body to fight cancer by also killing stem cells and T-cells. In my mind this does not seem to be an effective strategy. You are reducing your body’s ability to fight cancer by utilizing these strategies.
Granted, you have cancer. If these immune systems were winning you wouldn’t need the devastating chemo, radiation, or surgery. But, until you change your lifestyle, that is changing what you have been doing that got you in this situation, nothing is going to change. Like the old saying, “when you find yourself in a hole, quit digging.” Or as Yogi Berra advised, when you come to the fork in the road take it.”
You are now at the fork in the road. Unless you take it, nothing is going to change. Not all of the chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or surgery will make you cancer free.
Nobody likes a juicy steak more than me. Cooked medium with pink in the middle, mmmm the smell, the flavor, life doesn’t get any better, until it doesn’t. I’ve often said that if I am ever found dead in an alley with a needle in my arm it better be attached to a chocolate shake. If there is anything I crave or am addicted to it is a thick, chocolate shake preferably from Sonic Drive-In. But no mas.
The occasional steak or shake did not get me here but certainly the decades of junk I have consumed, vehicle exhaust fumes, second hand smoke I have breathed, stress from work and life, and just life in general got me here. I am committed to a 180-degree lifestyle change.
I have been eating tons of fruit and veggies with the occasional fax pax like a cheese omelet. Thinking that free range chicken eggs would be healthful and beneficial to killing my cancer I have now found to be false. I’m finding that animal protein is feeding my cancer.
I never in my wildest imaginations did I ever think that I would become a vegetarian!!!!!!!!! I have always been a “Beef, It’s what for dinner” guy. I was brought up on the American western genre in TV and movies. John Wayne and Clint Eastwood were/are beef eaters maybe with a vegetable on the side. This is upsetting to our entire American culture of cattle ranching and consuming meat. Even Will Rogers weighed in on the subject:
“There will never be any class of people in our country that can replace the old western cowman for common sense, shrewdness, humor and fine citizenship.”
Are we to turn our backs on common sense, shrewdness, humor and fine citizenship? Are we now going to forget about the cowman, John Wayne, apple pie, and the American way? I pray that once detoxified and cancer free that I will once again be able to enjoy an occasional T-bone and chocolate shake! God bless America!
Now that I am eating fresh fruits and veggies, I am more satisfied and crave less between meal junk that I used to stuff in my mouth. The food is good! There are even fresh fruit smoothies that are delicious that substitute for my beloved shake.
So, another book that I highly recommend is: Beat Cancer Kitchen by Chris and Micah Wark. There’s a lot of great cancer fighting nutritional information and when you are at your wits end asking, “what can I eat?” there are over 125 recipes.

What about exercise?
According to a Japanese study, “Exercise is the key to surviving cancer.”
The study found that muscle mass was a factor in surviving cancer. I’m a firm believer in exercise. Exercise:
- strengthens your body.
- enables your body to metabolize food better.
- increases oxygen levels throughout your body.
- Makes you tougher and better able to withstand stress and obstacles, like cancer.
- Increases muscle mass and strengthens muscles.
These are just a few things from my experience off the top of my head but don’t take my word for it. Healthline.com provides ten benefits to exercise:
- Exercise can make you feel happier
- Exercise can help with weight management
- Exercise is good for your muscles and bones
- Exercise can increase your energy levels
- Exercise can reduce your risk of chronic disease
- Exercise can help skin health
- Exercise can help your brain health and memory
- Exercise can help with relaxation and sleep quality
- Exercise can reduce pain
- Exercise can promote a better sex life
One of those alone is enough to get me working out . . . and who doesn’t want better skin health?
“A growing body of research shows that continuing to exercise after a cancer diagnosis can improve post-surgical recovery, reduce recurrence rates and even increase survival rates.” The Japanese study summarized their findings in a graph showing skeletal muscle mass and survival rate in cancer patients.

Cancer and Oxygen
I’ve read that “oxygen kills cancer.” Is it true? Could it be as simple as that? Go out and run your butt off, breathe deeply and viola, no cancer? There is ongoing research into the relationship between cancer and oxygen.
Oxygen-Starved Tumor Cells Have Survival Advantage That Promotes Cancer Spread
“. . . tumor cells exposed to low-oxygen conditions have an advantage when it comes to invading and surviving in the bloodstream.”
“. . . cells from a primary cancer exposed to low oxygen levels, or hypoxia, have a four times greater probability of becoming viable circulating tumor cells—and likely spreading to distant tissues—than those under normal oxygen conditions.”
“Cancer cells tend to become more aggressive as they adapt to low oxygen levels,” says Gilkes, “but we were surprised to find that cells that were exposed to hypoxia in the primary tumor maintained their aggressive features even when they were reoxygenated in the blood.”
Tumor oxygenation and cancer therapy—then and now
“Tumor cells existing in such hypoxic environments have long been known to be resistant to anticancer therapy, display an aggressive phenotype, and promote tumor progression and dissemination.”
“. . . tumor cells near the limit of oxygen diffusion would survive at lower than normal oxygen tensions, rendering them resistant to radiation therapy.
“. . . tumor cells lacking oxygen were found to be 2.5–3 times more resistant to radiation than their normoxic counterparts.
(Hypoxia is a condition where there is not enough oxygen in the tissues of the body,)
“Although now recognized as a major contributor to cancer progression and to treatment failure, the precise role of hypoxia signaling in cancer and in prognosis still needs to be further defined. It is hoped that a better understanding of the mechanisms implicated will lead to alternative and more efficient therapeutic approaches.”
So, the jury is still out on oxygen but regardless a strong mind and body fortified by good nutrition and exercise have got to be additional therapies as you fight to kill your cancer.
